Have you ever woken up and decided that TODAY was the day to make a change in your life? Did you do well that particular day of your decision only to find that, the next day, life still looked the same so you abandoned your resolve? Unfortunately I have found this happen, time and time again, with my clients who make the decision to improve their health & fitness. I have discovered that, when all of the excuses are stripped away, there are 4 main fitness mistakes that people make in their initial decision. Making these mistakes will greatly decrease the chance of truly being successful and meeting your goals. Let's examine each of these because you may be making these choices unconsciously. As you read, I want you to be brutally honest with yourself.

Fitness Mistake #1. People are looking for a quick fix.

Yep, it's true. In today's "instant" society, people are still looking for that quick way to lose 10 lbs without working out or eating healthy. They want to simply pop a pill, take some drops, drink 2 artificial shakes per day, or put a body wrap on. I'm going to be straight with you.There isn't a quick, healthy fix to good fitness. You must put in the time and the sweat. Think about it. How long did it take you to get to the point where you are at today? I can take a pretty good guess that it wasn't overnight. Don't expect, in a healthy manner, to lose the excess weight or gain additional muscle in a week either. You are setting yourself up for failure with this mindset.

Fitness Mistake #2. People don't know where to start, so they just DON'T start.

Have you ever felt so overwhelmed with life that you just sit in the middle of the floor in the midst of all the "stuff" because you don't know where to begin? After all, we are barraged daily with health & fitness options on the TV, in magazines, and in our community. It can be overwhelming especially when you've been down this path before unsuccessfully.

OK let's talk straight. I hear this excuse, and yes it IS an excuse, all the time. You may not like what I'm going to say, but I'm going to say it anyway because I feel obligated. Someone has to say it.You absolutely, without a doubt, CAN afford to take care of yourself. You CAN find the money needed for a fitness program. Unless you are on the streets, you DO have disposable money. Granted you may not realize it, but if you were completely honest and really looked at your finances, you would find it. Stop eating out for a month and use that money. Sell some of your old clothes that you no longer wear. Get rid of your cable for a few months. Replace a healthier meal option, such as Shakeology, and decrease your typical grocery bill.If you truly honestly want to find the money, you will. If you don't, you'll find a reason to not be willing to invest in yourself. It happens all the time.

What Causes Muscle Growth?

In order for muscles to grow, three things are required:

1. Stimulus - exercise is needed to make the muscles work, use energy and cause microscopic damage to the fibers.

2. Nutrition - after intense exercise the muscles need to replenish their stores of fuel.

3. Rest - it is during the rest or recovery phase that the muscles repair the microscopic damage and grow.

Muscle size increases due to hypertrophic adaptation and an increase in the cross section area of individual muscle fibers. Intensive exercise impacts more on the strength influencing fast twitch type II fibers, therefore the increase in muscle size is accompanied by greater strength.

This will deplete the muscle's energy stores and cause microscopic damage to the muscle tissue. During recovery, these stores of glycogen and phosphocreatine will replenish from carbohydrates and creatine ingested as food or supplements. However, using the muscle to assist in exercising other body parts or even taking part in low intensity aerobic exercise will not prevent recovery.
It follows therefore that each muscle group should be trained intensively only once each week in order to allow full recovery. What Are Pigtails ???

There really isn't a huge debate on this subject, but there are some differences of opinion. This article looks at some of the differing opinions related to pigtails hairstyle definition, attempts to find some middle ground (perhaps unsuccessfully), and closes with this author's own definition and description of the ideal pigtails.

A ponytail is when the hair is tied together into a bunch and hanging from the back of the head. Most would agree on that. But if that ponytail is braided, is it still a ponytail? Some say it is, others say that this is called a braid. The same question applies to pigtails, the most common term for the gathering of the hair into twin ponytails (one on either side of the head). Can pigtails be braided and still be called pigtails? Do the terms "braided pigtails" and "unbraided pigtails" make sense? Some argue that "braided pigtails" are just "braids" and not pigtails at all!

The Random House College Dictionary defines "pigtail" as "a braid of hair hanging down the back of the head." Huh? It refers to ONE pigtail hangs down the back of the head, and calls it a braid? Hmm, there's no mention of TWO pigtails at all! Something doesn't seem right here. The dictionary entry for "ponytail" matches the definition I gave above. So what's up with all this? Is the dictionary wrong? Are there multiple dialectal or regional terms for twin ponytails, hence the difficulty for a dictionary to properly address the word's definition? Has the definition been too fluid over time for the dictionary to pin it down? And why doesn't the definition include the phrase "the cutest hairstyle ever?"

The word pigtail is also a wire cabling term that applies to a particular method for terminating an electrical cable's braided shield. (There's that word "braid" again!) Another technical, and even more contemporary, use of the word pigtail is for some sort of wireless accessories for radios or cell phones, or something like that - I haven't completely figured this one out yet.

A few years ago, a survey was done in a college classroom regarding the term pigtails. The students pretty much agreed that pigtails are two ponytails, one on each side of the head, and that they cannot be braided. If they were braided, they were called braids. The class instructor, being of a different generation, had a different definition. He believed that pigtails specifically meant two braids and that two unbraided ponytails should actually be called doggie tails. My personal analysis of this "experiment" is simply this: The instructor must have been elderly, or nearly so, and possibly losing his memory, so who knows what his generation really called "twin ponytails." And doggie tails? There is no way I could ever adapt to using such a term. The word dog, or anything like it, can never be used to describe a woman with the playfulness, boldness, and/or superior self-esteem to wear her hair in pigtails. The students clearly had a much better handle on what pigtails are all about.

So, where does this leave us? There appears to be generational differences and possibly regional or dialectal differences contributing to the debate (if you'd call it that). So, I'll put it this way: Pigtails are two gatherings of hair hanging on the left and right sides of the head. They may be braided or unbraided. But I'll add my preferences here as well, because the way I see it, there's one right kind of pigtail. Pigtails are far more attractive when unbraided. They should be located on the sides of the head, maybe a little behind and above the ears. Pigtails that are too high on the head, too low, or too far around in back, just don't possess the true spirit of pigtails. And pigtails without this true spirit are simply unable to work their undeniable magic on the wearer and those around her.

Should I Have A Face Lift?

Recommended Hair Products

Here are some products that I absolutely love.


Shampoo/Conditioner:

I have always been a huge fan of Herbal Essences products. They are cheap, smell great and normally work wonderfully. One of my favorites of theirs is the None of Your Frizziness shampoo/conditioner.It makes your hair insanely soft and definitely helps control the frizz. It has a great scent thats not too overpowering. This and the Long-Term Relationship by them have always been my go to choices. Recently though one of my friends convinced me to try their Touchably Smooth shampoo/conditioner and I absolutely regret buying it. It made my hair greasy and oil, I had build up and it looked like I had roots. I have never in my life had greasy hair or roots so I was so confused on why the product did that to my hair. I'm still not sure but I am assuming it was just too moisturizing for my hair and my hair clearly was moisturized enough. Which makes me think that they should clearly state on the bottle "for dry hair." I have also tried many other brands such as Aussie, Garnier Fructis, and Pantene. Aussie brand always made my hair feel dry and stripped down.

For some reason Garnier Fructis's shampoos smelled strange to me so I never liked getting them again. And Pantene's products always seemed to weigh my hair down. Finding the right shampoo is a guessing game and one that you must have to keep trying at.

Styling Products:

Any girl with wavy or curly hair knows that styling products are your best friend. Letting those bad boys air dry only works for a few lucky people. Styling products help combat frizz, hold the shape of your hair and a bunch of other things. There are many different types of styling prodcuts such as, mousse, gel, spray gel, and styling cream. My go to product is Garnier Fructis Wonder Waves spray gel. It has been the only product that makes my waves look natural and not crunchy. It can be sprayed on your hair when it is damp or dry which is an extra bonus. It gives just enough hold so that my hair is flying away from me but not to much that it look like I am one of those people who dunked their head in a tub of gel. I recommend this to all of my friends and to everyone who asks. I used to be a big fan of mousse but over the years I realized it made my hair very dry and it always had that crunchy factor. Sometimes if I feel like I need a little extra hold or some volumizing I will use mousse though.

Hairspray:

Hairspray to me is hairspray. If it holds your hair in place then it works. I normally tend to get Suave's Light Hold Hairspray just because it is cheap and it work really well. It does not make my hair stiff but does enough to keep it in check. Aussie and Treseme hairsprays also work really well. The one hairspray I have never liked is Aussie's Sun Kissed Hairspray because it adds a little gloss to your hair so if you want to spray more of it sometimes it makes your hair look extra shiny and occasionally greasy.

Secret Training Technique to Lose Pounds FAST!

Everybody says they have the answer to losing weight fast and safely but I am going to let you in on a little secret. You will NEVER lose weight if you don't TAKE ACTION!


People talk about how self-help books and CD programs don't work but that is not true. The trick is that you have to actually DO what the programs say to do. Unfortunately, most people get a sense of accomplishment from buying the program but when it arrives in the mail they just set it on the shelf and forget about it.

WARNING: Only read further if you are willing to TAKE ACTION. Be better than most. Set yourself apart.

If you want to lose ten pounds or more in the next one to two weeks, I have the answer. It doesn't involve any fancy supplements or weight machines. As a matter of fact, you can do this outside with only a pair of shoes and a stopwatch.

Here it is... write this down. MOVE... movement burns calories and that is how you lose weight. You burn more calories than you take in (aka EAT). I'm not going to preach about how diet is important to over health. If you want to lose weight, I don't care about WHAT you eat I just care about your getting off of the couch and MOVING.

Here are the specifics of the program I did that allowed me to lose ten pounds in three sessions. No joke. This is exactly how I did it.

You can mimic this, as I said, with a pair of sneakers and a stopwatch.

Get on the treadmill at your gym or fitness center and set the incline to level 6 with a speed of 6. Once the treadmill gets to the proper speed and incline, step up on it with your feet to the side (not on the moving track). Wait for the clock to hit an even number and jump onto the moving track for 30 seconds then jump off for 30 seconds. Repeat this for a total of 10 minutes. That is phase one.

Phase two. Pump up the incline to 10-12 and drop the speed to 3. Now repeat the 30 seconds on 30 seconds off routine just like before, for ten minutes. If you aren't able to do these speed and incline settings, adjust them accordingly but make sure you DO IT. There are no excuses here. You will start out thinking this is too easy maybe. Don't be discouraged because you will hit the wall at about 15-17 minutes.

My favorite phase is the final phase. In this phase, you lower the incline to ZERO and set the speed as fast as the treadmill will go. Once again, repeat the 30 seconds on and 30 seconds off for ten minutes.

SUCCESS! Now you have just done thirty minutes of intense cardio training... CONGRATS! You are an action taker and not a couch potato that expects to take a pill to get thin. You have my admiration and respect.

Once you master this technique, you can alter the time intervals from 30 seconds to a full minute on and off plus incorporate some weight lifting as well. You are a rockstar!
